How we investigate a health or injury claim
We develop the housing and medical evidence together so that the claimed health effect is supported by a coherent timeline.
1. Review the housing defect: We identify the condition, the landlord’s notice, the period of exposure and the repair or fitness duties that may have been breached.
2. Record symptoms and treatment: We ask when symptoms began or worsened, what treatment was received and whether a clinician discussed the home environment.
3. Obtain relevant records: With the client’s authority, GP, hospital, prescription, therapy or occupational records may be requested.
4. Consider independent medical evidence: A medical expert may be needed to diagnose the injury, address causation and provide a prognosis.
5. Calculate financial loss: We assess medication, travel, care, time away from work, damaged possessions and other expenses caused by the injury and disrepair.
6. Pursue combined remedies: Where appropriate, we seek repair work, damages for the housing conditions and separate compensation for the medically supported injury.
