Indefinite or Further Leave to Remain:
Leave to Remain is not the same as Naturalisation or Citizenship – which would give you the full rights of a UK citizen – but it does allow you to enter, leave, reside and work in the UK much like a UK citizen. It is important to remember that Leave to Remain is conditional and can lapse if you stay outside the UK for over 2 years or break certain laws.
Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK (also known as ‘Settlement’) allows you to stay in the UK without any time restrictions and without being subject to immigration controls. In order to apply for Leave to Remain, you now need to complete a “Life in the UK” test to demonstrate basic knowledge of English and life in the UK.
There are a number of sub-categories under the umbrella of Indefinite Leave to Remain, and these include:
- Spouse
- Tier 1 Entrepreneur
- Ten Years Long Residence
- 20 Years Long Residence – Private Route
- Victims of Domestic Violence
- Dependent Children
- Refugees
