Application for a British Passport
A British Passport proves your identity as a British citizen in another country. If you are a British citizen by birth or have acquired British nationality through naturalisation, you are entitled to a British Passport. A British citizen, at any time of his or her life, can apply for this travelling document.

Application
Identity and Passport Service (IPS) are responsible for maintaining and issuing Passports to eligible individuals. In order to get hold of your passport, you need to submit your application to IPS. Applicants over 16 applying for the first time and are required to attend an interview organized by IPS.
It normally takes 6 weeks for your passport application to be processed, however, this depends on the nature of your individual case. If you are in a hurry, you can apply for a fast track one-week service or a premium one-day service offered by IPS. These urgent services are more expensive and more difficult to follow, so it is recommended you seek legal guidance if applying via a fast-tracked service.
